HelpThe CD doesn't workThis CD is designed to work on a high performance PC running Microsoft Windows 98, ME or XP, and Internet Explorer 5 or 6. If you are having trouble browsing the disk, you can Explore the disk and run the movie clips using Apple's standalone Quicktime® movie player if installed on your computer. The starting point (homepage) is index.htm. The video clips don't playThe most likely reason that the video clips don't play are that you do not have Apple Quicktime installed on your PC. To install Quicktime, go to www.apple.com and download the free version of Quicktime, or install the Quicktime Player included with this CD. Another possibility is that the Windows Media Player is the assumed player for Quicktime movies (.mov extension). After the Quicktime player is installed on your PC, go to the Control Panel, select Quicktime, then File Type Associations, and make sure that "Macintosh file types" is selected. If the clips play, but there is no sound, you probably have an old version of Quicktime. You will need Quicktime Version 4 or newer. If you are running Windows XP or 2000, Quicktime might not operate properly if the proper browser plug-in is not installed. This can be resolved by connecting to the Internet and going to www.apple.com. Apple will automatically detect that Quicktime is installed on your machine and prompt you to install a plug-in. After this operation, Quicktime should work properly. The video clips hesitateThe video clips will only run properly on a high performance PC, with a fast CD drive. To improve video playback performance, copy the entire contents of the CD to a new folder on your hard disk drive. If you don't have sufficient disk space, you can copy individual movie clips to the hard drive and play them with your standalone Quicktime player, however, you will not have access to the support documentation on the CD. The Quicktime player sometimes misbehaves. If the video or audio becomes erratic or distorted during playback, reboot your computer to clear the problem. The video clips play, but there is no audioMake sure that you are running Quicktime Version 4 or newer. Note that the audio is in stereo. Voice communications audio is on the right channel, and the DECtalk® audio (synthesized speech) is on the left channel. The video clips are too big (or too small) for the monitorThe Quicktime video clips on this CD are optimized for a screen resolution of 1024 by 768. If your monitor is set to a lower resolution, the Quicktime movie window will not fit completely onto your screen. If your screen resolution is set higher than 1024 by 786, you will see the entire movie window, but it will be small. If possible, change your monitor resolution to 1024 by 786. The screen captures are too big for the monitorAll screen captures are 1280 by 1024 and will be too large for the typical PC monitor. However, we recommend that you set monitor resolution to 1024 by 768. Scroll the images with the window scroll bar to see the entire image. View this CD on a 17-inch or 19-inch monitor. If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, all images larger than the browser window will auto-size, by default, to fit within the window. To see the screen capture images full size (highly recommended), hover your mouse over the image. An "expand" icon will appear in the lower right corner of the window. Click on that icon to expand the image to full size. Use the browser window scroll bars to view the entire image. To permanently disable IE6 image resizing, select Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, and un-check Multimedia, "Enable Automatic Image Resizing". The text seems too large or too small for the monitorThe text size is controllable from your Internet Explorer browser using View, Text Size on the task bar at the top of the browser window.
